A Music Cooperative on the Web
|
|
|
Here you will find the beginnings of three related projects:
- PenguinSong.net
The main thing: a cooperative network for musicians and listeners,
dedicated to the ideas that:
- we're all in this together -- it's a coop
- musicians should get paid for their work
- fair's fair -- fair prices and fair use
- every song deserves a good home (page)
- big brother is not watching
Initially, we will be aiming at the filk (the indigenous music of
science-fiction fandom) community, though others will certainly be
welcome.
- PenguinSong.org
The software-development organization behind PenguinSong.net. Dedicated
to putting together the very best music-oriented open-source software,
including Linux distributions for musicians and listeners. And if you
want to set up something like PenguinSong for art or text, go for it!
The website software is free, too.
- PenguinSong.com
PenguinSong.net's wholly-owned moneygrubber. By selling prepackaged
software, music CD's, T-shirts, PenguinSong guitar picks, and whatever
else we can think of and funneling the profits to PenguinSong.net, we
reduce fees to listeners (to zero, if possible) and increase payments to
musicians.
It's important to understand that this stuff doesn't exist yet!
-- we're still in the process of getting it together. If you want to
help, eventually we'll have a signup form and all that stuff. For now,
just check back here every now and then. Meanwhile, here's the Project Roadmap and tentative schedule.
Here's the FAQ, and here are
the Images we use.
In case you're wondering, here's a little note from the perpetrator on
Why I'm Doing This.
